Description

A manual excitation with a small Modal hammer without a „Double Hit“ is nearly impossible – a well-known and very inconvenient issue. As a solution for this issue MAUL-THEET developed the product family of the automatic Modal hammer „vImpact“. This enables you to precisely and reproducibly excite structures and measure the excitation forces. The series of automatic Modal hammer from MAUL–THEET includes the vImpact–20 and the vImpact–60. The difference lies mainly in the performance of the measuring range – the vImpact–60 to max. 60kHz, the vImpact–20 measures up to 20kHz.

Innovation

Unlike their predecessors vImpact-60, vImpact-20 and vImpact-2000, the new models have increased the maximum power of impact, especially during overhead excitation. At the same time, we have made them more user-friendly by reducing the number of controls and improving the ability to adjust the impact force. Furthermore, the signal cable can be grounded via a switch to improve the signal-to-noise ratio.

The vImpact system is divided into two components:

Hammer Head + Controller

The hammer head includes the small Modal hammer who has an integrated force cell and the electro dynamic actor that moves the hammer. The control unit sends the impulse that moves the Modal hammer to the actor inside the hammer head. The measured force signal is at the output of the control unit available. The hammer can be triggered by several methods:

Manually with a button on the control unit

By closing the external input e.g. by a push button extension or by a third-party device.

Via a TTL pulse at the external input.

With the built-in timer in the range of 4 beats per second up to 1 beat per 1000s (16 minutes)

As is known from practice, manual excitation with a small modal hammer without “double hits” is almost impossible. Here the

vImpact-61 can help. He works without “double hits” in all directions with a max. Impact force of 150 N pk.

With the new vImpact-61, structures can be excited precisely and reproducibly. The excitation forces are measured with the load cell in the hammer head, which is suitable for frequency ranges up to 60 kHz. This makes the small modal hammer particularly interesting for acoustic and laser measurements.

To align the hammer head, it can be brought into the later striking position using the switch on the front

The vImpact-61 system consists of three components:

  • Hammer head
  • Control unit
  • Power Supply

The vImpact-61 modal hammer can be triggered in four various ways:

  • With the internal timer in the range of 2 hits per second up to 1 hit per 1000 seconds.
  • Manually with the trigger button at the control unit.
  • By closing the external input with a switch through an extension cable or by any device with a closing contact.
  • By TTL signal.

vImpact-2001 / Adjustable Automatic Modal Hammer

Highlights:

  • Automatic Modal Hammer for high forces > 2 kN
  • Adjustable Impact Intensity
  • Timer Operation:   1 impact per s to 1 Impact per 1000 s
  • External Trigger: TTL, closer
  • High Excitation:   2000 N (Steel on steel)
  • Works in all Directions
  • Frequency Range up to 6 kHz
  • High Impact Repeatability

The new vImpact-2001 hammer was developed for excitation forces above 2000 N (steel on steel) in all directions. The Impact amplitude can be setup by the controller.

The vImpact-2001 was designed for applications where a high repeatability is required and in test areas where persons are not allowed to stay inside during operation. A typical application is an automatic modal analysis with a Scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer.

Large structures can be excited with the vImpact-2001 in the frequency ranges up to 6 kHz. A further influence of the peak value of the force and the excitation frequency spectrum can be obtained by using different hammer tips

The vImpact-2001 system consists of three components:

  • Hammer head
  • Control unit
  • Power Supply

Optionally, we can also supply a hydraulic arm fixed by a switchable solenoid to position the vImpact-2001 head.

The hammer can be triggered in various ways:

  • With the internal timer in the range of 1 hits per second up to 1 hit per 1000 seconds.
  • Manually with the trigger button at the front of the control unit.
  • By closing the external input with a switch through an extension wire or by any device with a closing contact.
  • By a TTL signal.
